In other news: WE NOW AUTOMATICALLY LIKE SOCCER! ⚽️ 🎻 😁
MLS commissioned none other than film composer (and our musical hero) Hans Zimmer to write their new official anthem. Smart move. Below is the result. Obviously being only a minute or so long it's not going to have the range and impact of his normal work, but it's certainly miles better than many football anthems of yesteryear (we're looking at you, En-ga-land). Check it out...
I think it's pretty solid and hits all the marks. The foot-stomping 3/4 time signature and thunderous drums wouldn't sound out of place at a typical Sounders match. And the rising ostinato from the string section creates a nice dramatic buildup (...right up our alley!).
Of course, this isn't Zimmer's first foray into the world of soccer. A few years back he and protege Lorne Balfe (of His Dark Materials fame) recorded the soundtrack for the game FIFA 19 - The Journey - Champions. In my opinion it's an overlooked gem in his body of work. I'd recommend any Zimmer fan give it a listen.
